I think the baby looks like it's father.

There s/he is!! That's our baby in there, upside down, so the big part on the bottom is the head. That's why I'm sure it looks like Thomas so far, they both had big heads as babies LOL.
Anyway this is our first picture and we have been treasuring it as if it was... well.. a REAL picture. We went in on Thursday morning and got the ultrasound. I was just so excited when I heard Thomas say "Oh wow." and the Dr. say, "There it is." I was so sure they were gonna look and say, "ummm... well we don't really see anything, did you make up being pregnant??" And I would have to say, "Well yes I guess I did, I just wanted it so bad."
Or of course senario # 2 would have been: "Oh look, there it is.... and there's another.... oh and another and another." Let's just say I'm so thankful theres one little healthy baby in there :)
We saw it's heart beating on screen. It looked like a little black blip right in the front of the baby's chest (to the left side of this picture, so it looks like the baby was upside down and facing left.) The baby was also moving around the doctor said and I could tell because at one point it was totally upside down. They measured it and it was just less than an inch long so they figured I was 8 wks & 5 days along. I figured I was 8 wks that day, so I got a new date, it's now DEC. 2ND.
So we couldn't stop grinning and talking about how cool it was to see the baby like that. I had to make tons of copies of it for babybooks, journals, grandparents, the refridgerator, everywhere!
So I'm 9 wks today and hoping I only have a month left of throwing up. But after seeing the baby really truely in there, it makes it all worth it!

Honey, could you hold my hair back?

Ahhhh yes, and the morning sickness is now here in full force. So if imagery of being sick makes you wanna puke yourself, you probably shouldn't read much further! :)
Monday morning I incorporated tossing my cookies into my morning routine before work. Luckily I made it through the rest of the day without incident, (since that would have been horribly embarrassing at my teller window). Today I felt alright and thought I was doing pretty well, until we ate dinner and I left mine in the toilet. So I guess it's not "morning" sickness at all. It's "all-day" sickness.
Poor Grandpa Cardiff (Thomas' grandpa) took us out to dinner tonight at JK's buffet to congratulate us on the pregnancy. I hardly said a word, I was concentrating so hard on keeping my food down. The waiter looked at me concernedly and said, "You not eat much?" I just smiled and said, "No". I couldn't believe someone was saying that to me!! I LOVE to eat! But these days, things are different. Oh yes, and I'm a vegetarian now. I just can't stand the site or smell of meat.
Anyway, I'm sipping my ginger tea now trying to calm my stomach and Thomas has gone out to the grocery store to try and find some more foods that might agree with me. God bless him, he's so great, he never complains!
The good news is I have been informed that throwing up is a good sign. I guess they say that to comfort the women who have to deal with it. For some reason it means plenty of nutrients is getting to the baby and that they've latched on real well in there.
So Thursday's the big day. 8:30 in the morning I get to see my baby for the first time on an ultrasound. I'm praying there's one healthy little peanut in there. My mother took one look at my tummy already sticking out at 8 weeks and thought it looked like I'm having twins! Ha ha very funny. So like I said ONE healthy little peanut would be perfect.
I think I'm gonna put my PJ's on and watch Wheel of Fortune, because my life is just that exciting right now. LOL Just kidding. My life IS exciting, my daily routine just isn't!

These little town blues are melting away

It's been awhile since I've blogged, for the obvious reason that we were in New York from Sat-Wed. And for the maybe-not-so-obvious reason that 1st trimester exhaustion has possessed me. It's so hard to do my make-up in the morning (IF I have successfully managed to drag myself out of bed, of course,) let alone do the fun things I have to find extra time for.

But we're back and we had such a wonderful time! NY is quite the experience and although sometimes I felt as if I were in San Francisco, there is just so much packed into that one city.

Are you ready for this??

We saw: The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, Macys, Broadway, 42nd St, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Trump Tower, Carnegie Hall, Ground Zero, SOHO, Park Ave., Grand Cental Station, The Waldorf-Astoria, Harlem, the Bronx, Queens, and most of whatever is left of Manhattan after this list.

We ate in the Carnegie Deli for lunch which is a NY experience in and of itself. The have the hugest sandwiches ever, and matzo on the tables as it was passover. The deli is decievingly small from the front, just a hole in the wall from the outside but it continues back into a series of huge rooms that were wallpapered with pictures of all the celebrities who have visited the deli, and signed their pic. Even the red-headed crooner from the last American Idol was on the wall.

We took a ferry out to Liberty Island and Ellis Island and couldn't have had better weather for the whole experience. Floating on the Hudson River and seeing the Mahattan and New Jersey skylines in crystal clear skies was pretty cool. Did you know that the book that the Statue of Liberty is holding is two stories high and one of her fingers is eight feet long!?

We also visited Ground Zero which is very strange as it is more of a "nothing" than a "something". To stare at the space the two towers must have filled and to imagine how high they would have reached, you can't help but imagine them crumbling down and how you would have been instantly blown away standing where you are. The cross is still standing in the middle of the hole with part of the wreckage from the buliding sitting on it. That was the most moving thing to see. I really couldn't comprehend it all, especially since I had never seen the towers in person when they were there.

I think cabbies are rude, and I can say I've ridden in a NY Taxi. But I think New Yorkers as a whole are very proud of their city and seem happy to have you there. People in the city are crazy drivers, needless to say really, but I have never seen people just driving around (fast too) making up their own lanes, turning whenever they want, and yet, no one crashed!! I was very impressed.

Note to self though, I will never travel in my first trimester again. Things were fine for the most part but I have been having serious food aversions! I've become super picky and cant even LOOK at food sometimes without getting sick to my stomache. The hard thing about travelling is you can't eat the foods you want or avoid the food you don't want as easily as at home, you have to eat when everybody else does, not when you really want to neccesarily, and I actually had to have them pull the car over so I could be sick in the bushes at one point. (Nothing came of it though, I've yet to toss my cookies this pregnancy.)

But we're home, and glad to be, I like that about travelling, you appriciate home more.

Starbucks? BLech!!!

So the baby may only be .16 of an inch long, but it's having a huge effect on 5'6" me. I'm really not eating that much differently than I was before (just more of course as I'm not trying to lose weight now!) but my pants that fit perfectly 3 weeks ago are already getting snug in the waist. I am exhausted and I nap for 2 hours everyday except the days I go to work at the bank. I am definitely having a bit of nausea, especially in the morning right when I wake up until about 1:00 in the afternoon. I just kind of feel like I'm car sick all the time.
And I had no idea that food cravings and aversions really would be as strong as they are, but the thought of coffee makes me ready to run for the porceline throne! Just the suggestion, the thought, the inkling of coffee and I'm turning green. (I'm going to try and be brave and post a pic of Starbucks here, hoepfully I can make it.) Now I used to LOVE coffee, I had it EVERY morning and then I would visit Starbucks at some point in the day maybe about 4 times a week in an average week. I haven't had a sip of coffee in 2 weeks and the last Starbucks I had, I threw out half way through (sacrelidge!)
On the other hand I really want soups, Ramen, Progresso, home made, doesn't really matter as long as it's a broth (not cream) based soup. Minestrone, hot and sour (I enjoyed some of my mothers hot and sour today yummmm.....) beef and potatoe, whatever, it sounds great to me. Oh and juice. I never drank juice before but that's what I'm really wanting, I'm mostly sucking on sugar free pops though as I haven't made it down the store for a lot of juice yet.
I also read that your taste and smell change. I'm glad that the books are telling me I'm normal because I have yet to meet someone who knows what I'm talking about. Everything tastes a little off, like someone added a couple of pennies into the recipe just to mix it up a bit. So even though I WANT something, it never really ends up tasting like my brain imagined it would! Very bizarro.
Thomas has been doing really well, he's super patient with the house that is falling apart around him because all his wife can bring herself to do is sleep. He's almost cleared out the back room entirely and he's ripped out the old closet so he can update those before we get the new carpets in the rooms. He loves to hear what the baby looks like and in what ways it's developing this week, and he's already been helping me write in the baby book. (Which he thinks is way cool).
I can't wait until April 27th which is my first pre-natal appointment, where a real doctor will tell me I'm pregnant and even show us the baby inside. Once someone besides EPT tells me I'm pregnant and theres a heartbeat, I think it'll really settle in.

In more news, the weather today..... !@*&^#%!@$%

I'm an apprentice....

...an apprentice seamtress! I think I made my Mom proud. Thomas wanted his new jeans hemed about 5 inches, so I did it the way my Mom does it and in about 10 minutes this was my result.
I don't care if this is boring for anyone to read, I am soooo excited I did such a freakin' good job. Now we can expand the business!! Mwahhahahahaahahahahaaaaaaa.
Actually I most definitely need to practice a lot more to get my speed up, but we'll get there.
So Ron White was tonight! He's just the funniest comedian ever. Totally innappropriate which is why I like him. I haven't heard my Dad laugh so hard... well.... since the last time we watched Ron White right Mom??? Of course there were hecklers, there always are. About 6 dorks all drunk who kept yelling about Kelseyville..... I don't know. Anyway, it still was a blast.
Well I just really wanted to brag about my sewing. Oh and this week the babys heart starts to beat on it's own even though it's only the size of a poppy seed. I really can't believe how amazing the whole life process is.
Time for bed!!!

Willy Nilly Silly Ole Bear

The baby (although they don't know it yet) recieved a really special gift today from their Grandma! A home made Classic Pooh fleece blanket. It's going to go perfect in the baby room :) I can't wait to use it. I most definitely don't want to rush the experience of being pregnant for the first time, but it sure seems like 9 months is a LONG ways away!

I'm really hoping that I'll be lucky like my mom was a have a fairly easy pregnancy with no morning sickness. The nausea I've felt has been very slight. It just feels like I might feel sick soon.

In other news, we finally had our work Christmas party. I know, Christmas in April? Are we crazy? Well.... yeah, but that's beside the point. We were supposed to have our annual Christmas dinner for the employees of our little branch and their spouses the weekend after we got robbed. But as that put a little crimp in our plans we decided to postpone it. Everyone was dressed in Christmas attire and there was even a little (VERY LITTLE) festive music. It was a good time, and good to put that behind us in a way.

NEW YORK NEW YORK, here we come! I am so excited that in a couple weeks we'll be visiting New York for the first time ever. (Anyone thinking anything tricky, we will have a full time house sitter, spending nights and days, as he doesn't have a job right now, at our home while we're away!)
Niether Thomas or I have ever been and we're just so excited. We'll have a good 3 full days to wander around the city and we're going with someone who grew up there and also staying with extended family, so I think it'll be the perfect way to visit for the first time. Not too overwhelming that way. Of course we'll have to see the staple attractions, but I'm looking forward to seeing some of the not so common tourist spots. We'll have lots of pics to share!

But I think I need a nap now. I'm not good for much after about 6 hours. :) Still wishing the sun (that's what it's called right?) might come out again one day.

April Fools, or is it for real??

So I'm now in a state of disbelief about being pregnant. If it wasn't for the two positive tests and the symptoms, I'd have a hard time believing this is actually finally happening for us. But I'm super dizzy all the time, I get slightly nauseous after dinner, very exhausted, and I'm totally congested in the head (which I never knew was a symptom!)
Thomas occasionally says, "I'm gonna be a papa!" Like he just can't wrap his brain around it. We're probably feeling about the same!
So our baby already has gifts! My co-workers were so excited to hear the news that the next day we recieved a rattle and a blanket and copies of What To Expect When You're Expecting, and the First Year. :) I'm soooooo excited to have baby stuff in the house.
Also our bathroom is ALMOST done, just a little more grouting to be done and then we can (and by "we" I guess I mean Thomas) move on to the nursery and our master bathroom.

Hopefully I can sleep tonight, I guess I'd better get to bed soon too. We've got to set the clocks AHEAD tonight and we have to be up early anyway to sing. I just took my sudafed so hoepfully it'll kick in and I can sleep with this stuffy nose. Ugh I hate stuffy noses, feels like I'm suffocating.

It's REALLY Happening!!

OK, I know you can't see it, but there are TWO pink lines on that stick. That's right people, 2! I'm freakin' pregnant and I have never been so excited in my life.
After we found out last night, I bounced off the walls for hours and even woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep.
I just KNEW it, I think intuition is one of the best symptoms to go by.

So we cancelled our apt. with the infertility doctor for today, as we will no longer be needing her services and I made my first pre-natal doctor's apt. I also went on the computer and tried to guess about when it might have happened and it said I'll be due on Dec. 7th. Dec. 7th 2005 was one of the worst days of my life and Dec. 7th 2006 (well around there) is going to be the BEST! I can't believe it.

OK, for anyone who doesn't know, we've been trying to get pregnant for 17 months now, and I was beginning to fear it wasn't going to happen to me. But this is a true miracle and the answer to countless prayers! And one of my friends who was going through the same frustration, got pregnant just 3 weeks before, so we get to go through it together.

I can't wait to go maternity clothes shopping with Tina and baby stuff shopping with my Mom!!

Yay, and thank the LORD. :)

Of Bloodhounds and Bathrooms

Thomas had been working his little butt off on getting our house finished. Right now the project is our main bathroom, and as we've spent WAY too much money on it already, I'm happy to say it's almost done.
The sink just needs to be grouted and.. well... have a sink. But the shower is done and already broken in by Thomas's buddy Tom who's been staying with us this weekend.
Luckily Thomas likes what he does, when I look around this house and think of all the work that's gone into it in the past 3 years, I get tired!

In other news Woodrow got his ear tore up by Fitz the cat, and then got an infection. Every time he'd shake his head, there was pretty much blood all over the hound and my house. So we decided to try and stop the bleeding we'd wrap his head, but this didn't work. In the end Thomas put 2 socks over his ear and duct taped the whole thing to his head. It stopped the bleeding and we all slept peacefully. I don't think Woodrow minds that he's bald on the back of his ear now.

I'm going to put my blue toes by the fire now. Here's hoping spring arrives some day! :)

I'm with Gabbie

My dog is still in bed and I think she's got the right idea. It's raining again, (I think it's NOT rained 4 days this month), it's Tuesday and I'm getting ready to go to work, so I'd much rather be doing what Gabbie's doing.
Yesterday one of Cotati's crazy men, who is a regular, came in and asked if someone had indeed asked me to marry him. He asked, "You know how I know?" I guessed, "uhhhh, you saw my ring." He says, "No, I was going to ask you to marry me, but then I saw your ring." So I think he's told every girl in the bank that he would like to marry them.
At least Thursady I don't have to be at work all day. Thomas and I have a Dr.'s appt, so I get to leave work early either way. Woo Hoo! I also found out that we will NOT be going to court that day, so we don't have to worry about it intefering with the apt. I'm so happy!
Well, I'm just staring this blog and I'll have to mess around with it for a bit to get it right. Maybe Thomas would like to add his 2 cents every once in awhile, that'd be fun. :)
I recommend, if you haven't already, to try the Western Boot in Healdsburg, really good food, and less expensive than Cattlemans. Very yummy.
