It's been awhile since I've blogged, for the obvious reason that we were in New York from Sat-Wed. And for the maybe-not-so-obvious reason that 1st trimester exhaustion has possessed me. It's so hard to do my make-up in the morning (IF I have successfully managed to drag myself out of bed, of course,) let alone do the fun things I have to find extra time for.
But we're back and we had such a wonderful time! NY is quite the experience and although sometimes I felt as if I were in San Francisco, there is just so much packed into that one city.
Are you ready for this??
We saw: The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, Macys, Broadway, 42nd St, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Trump Tower, Carnegie Hall, Ground Zero, SOHO, Park Ave., Grand Cental Station, The Waldorf-Astoria, Harlem, the Bronx, Queens, and most of whatever is left of Manhattan after this list.

We ate in the Carnegie Deli for lunch which is a NY experience in and of itself. The have the hugest sandwiches ever, and matzo on the tables as it was passover. The deli is decievingly small from the front, just a hole in the wall from the outside but it continues back into a series of huge rooms that were wallpapered with pictures of all the celebrities who have visited the deli, and signed their pic. Even the red-headed crooner from the last American Idol was on the wall.
We took a ferry out to Liberty Island and Ellis Island and couldn't have had better weather for the whole experience. Floating on the Hudson River and seeing the Mahattan and New Jersey skylines in crystal clear skies was pretty cool. Did you know that the book that the Statue of Liberty is holding is two stories high and one of her fingers is eight feet long!?

We also visited Ground Zero which is very strange as it is more of a "nothing" than a "something". To stare at the space the two towers must have filled and to imagine how high they would have reached, you can't help but imagine them crumbling down and how you would have been instantly blown away standing where you are. The cross is still standing in the middle of the hole with part of the wreckage from the buliding sitting on it. That was the most moving thing to see. I really couldn't comprehend it all, especially since I had never seen the towers in person when they were there.

I think cabbies are rude, and I can say I've ridden in a NY Taxi. But I think New Yorkers as a whole are very proud of their city and seem happy to have you there. People in the city are crazy drivers, needless to say really, but I have never seen people just driving around (fast too) making up their own lanes, turning whenever they want, and yet, no one crashed!! I was very impressed.
Note to self though, I will never travel in my first trimester again. Things were fine for the most part but I have been having serious food aversions! I've become super picky and cant even LOOK at food sometimes without getting sick to my stomache. The hard thing about travelling is you can't eat the foods you want or avoid the food you don't want as easily as at home, you have to eat when everybody else does, not when you really want to neccesarily, and I actually had to have them pull the car over so I could be sick in the bushes at one point. (Nothing came of it though, I've yet to toss my cookies this pregnancy.)
But we're home, and glad to be, I like that about travelling, you appriciate home more.
